Alecko Eskandarian and Gerald Goldee

“He did the impossible.” That’s what 2004 MLS Cup MVP Alecko Eskandarian said about his teacher Gerald Goldee. “My high school had lots of really tough kids. In his own quiet way, Mr. Goldee straightened them out. He taught them to respect others by learning to respect themselves. It’s a lesson I’ll never forget.”

Supporting You

TeachersCount works to help teachers in many ways, both direct and indirect. The direct services, information, and resources we offer to teachers, you’ll find right here in the “I’m a Teacher” section of our website. There’s the TeachersDisCount program, information on grants, conferences, awards and competitions, the latest education news, guides to finding great teacher resources on the web, and more.

But that’s only the beginning of what we at TeachersCount are doing to help teachers and alleviate problems in the teaching profession. In addition to offering resources directly to teachers, TeachersCount strives actively to improve public perceptions of the teaching profession by participating in public service announcement (PSA) campaigns and related initiatives. In partnership with high-profile, for-profit companies, we and others in the business community are able to use the name recognition and resources of such companies to raise awareness about the valuable work teachers do and the importance of keeping the teaching profession healthy and attractive, for the benefit of teachers and students alike.

A prime example of these efforts is our National Social Marketing Campaign, presented by Time Inc. The campaign consists of a series of print ads, each of which features a celebrity standing alongside his or her favorite teacher, in addition to a teaching-related anecdote and the tagline, “Behind every famous person is a fabulous teacher.” This ongoing ad series is published in the Time Inc. family of magazines.

TeachersCount has formed a partnership with Hallmark as well, a collaboration that’s resulted in free teaching-themed e-cards and an innovative new web feature called “Ten Ways to Make Teacher Appreciation Week Count.” TeachersCount also has relationships with Google, Marvel Entertainment, Scholastic, the NFL, and other organizations, all of which are working with TeachersCount to help teachers and the teaching profession in their own unique way.

Another way we at TeachersCount recognize the achievement of teachers is by creating and maintaining StudentStories and the TeachersPet Giving Program and Honor Roll. Both provide eye-catching opportunities for students past and present to pay homage to teachers.
