NEW YORK, June 8, 2005—TeachersCount, a non-profit organization committed to garnering recognition and benefits for teachers, is working with Hallmark, American Express, and other companies to ensure parents and kids find no shortage of ways to thank their teachers.

Parents, students, and friends of teachers who visit either Hallmark or TeachersCount on the web are now able to send free teaching-themed e-cards to thank teachers. Hallmark has designed a series of new e-cards specifically for this purpose.

Hallmark and TeachersCount have also collaborated to present “Ten Ways to Thank a Teacher,” a list of innovative ideas for helping and honoring teachers that is accessible from both websites. “It is our hope that these new undertakings will inspire students and parents to up the ante on teacher appreciation both in and out of the digital realm,” says Diana Burroughs, Executive Director of the non-profit TeachersCount.

TeachersCount has teamed with other companies in the name of teacher appreciation as well. Companies like 1-800-Flowers, American Express, The Fruit Company, and Yard Art have made great teacher gifts available on TeachersCount.org and are donating a portion of their proceeds to TeachersCount or, as is the case with the Fruit Company, to Jones New York In the Classroom, a new organization of which TeachersCount is a beneficiary. “The great part about what these companies are doing is that not only do they offer thoughtful teacher gifts in a convenient place; they also bring a great deal of public attention to the idea that teachers deserve recognition, and that’s what TeachersCount is about,” says Burroughs.

TeachersCount is a national, independent, non-profit organization operated out of New York City. Its goal is to bring resources, services, and recognition to the nation’s teachers using an ever-changing line-up of innovative programs and methods. In addition to its work with the aforementioned companies, TeachersCount has partnered with Time Inc. to create a series of national advertisements featuring celebrities and teachers in the Time family of magazines. TeachersCount also offers TeachersDisCount and Honoring Teachers, programs that, respectively, offer retail discounts to teachers and web-publish memoirs of students present and past who wish to pay tribute to the teachers who changed their lives.
