Michelle Snow and John Alemany

Michelle Snow, a member of the Houston Comets Women’s Basketball Team, has been recognized for her athletic prowess since a young age.  In 1998, she was a member of the United States Under-19 Team, which won the world championship in Shreveport, Louisiana.  She went on to play basketball at the University of Tennessee, where she was named to the Women’s Basketball College Association All-Star Team in 2002. In the 2002 WNBA draft, she was the 10th pick of the first round, and in 2003, she was named the WNBA’s Most Improved Player of the Year.  She was third in the WNBA in rebounds per game (7.7) during the 2004 season and was named to the All-Star Team in 2005 by her coaches.  The 2005 season saw her playing in all 33 games with a 12 point-per-game average and leading the league in field goal percentage. 

John Alemany graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in 1980 with a degree in secondary education and a concentration in physical education.  As a member of ROTC (Reserve Officers’ Training Corps), Alemany enlisted in the United States Air Force after college and worked on ICBM missile maintenance and logistics.  After twelve years in the Air Force, he became a Spanish teacher at Pensacola High School in Pensacola, Florida, where he has taught for the last 13 years.  Outside of class, he is a sponsor of the Spanish National Honor Society.  Alemany was quite impressed by Michelle Snow when she was in his Spanish class.  “She was easy to teach, compliant, inquisitive, and truly a special student,” he recalls.
