One Tree Hill star Sophia Bush still uses the skills she learned from English teacher Peter Goss to succeed as an actress. “He taught me to read between the lines, to see the hidden messages, and to live the stories on the pages,” says Sophia.

Sophia Bush was born on July 8, 1982 in Pasadena California. She attended the Westridge School for Girls in Pasadena, before enrolling in University of Southern California. In 2000, she was the Tournament of Roses Parade Queen.

Sophia made her movie debut in 2002 in Van Wilder starring Ryan Reynolds. She then made appearances in several television shows including Nip/Tuck, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and Punk'd.

In 2003, Ms. Bush received her big break when she won the role of Brooke Davis in the television series One Tree Hill. In between seasons of One Tree Hill, Bush has been cast in several films, such as Supercross, Stay Alive, John Tucker Must Die, and The Hitcher (the 2007 remake).

Sophia received a “Rising Star” award at the Vail Film Festival for her work in The Hitcher. She has also won three Teen Choice Awards for her work in John Tucker Must Die and The Hitcher.

Peter Goss received his BA from the University of New Mexico. As an undergraduate, Mr. Goss was summa cum laude in General Studies and magna cum laude in English. He was also Phi Beta Kappa and a Rhodes Scholar Finalist. He received his M.A. in English from the University of New Mexico and a M.B.A. from UCLA.

Peter currently teaches English in grades 10, 11, and 12 at Sandia Preparatory School in Albuquerque, NM. His junior/senior courses are electives including Irish Literature and Literature of the American South. He has occasionally been a college counselor and has also taught an Intro to Economics course. Previously, Peter taught for five years at Westridge School in Pasadena, California.

Mr. Goss has twice received the Blue Ribbon Teacher Award from the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce.

When asked what the best thing about teaching is, Mr. Goss replied:
“For me, the best thing is being around bright, energetic, intellectually motivated teenagers who are eager to grow and develop as readers and writers. There is no other job that allows me to be a reader, writer, and thinker as well as participate in guiding and shaping the lives of young people. Every year, every day, every class there is something special that happens. I also enjoy being in a school environment in which all these students who I know from class are doing a million other impressive things – sports, drama, music, - that I can share with them.”
